Jacob celebrates his first birthday today, just a little over a month after his cousin E.J., so he gets a card with the same cupcake image (per DH’s request). My inspiration came from Viva la Verve! Week 3, both sketch and picture.

Yay! I’ve been able to make a card for each day of the Pattern Play Online Card Class this week. Of course, this is a total CASE of Kristina Werner’s gorgeous card, using the quilted strips technique she demonstrated in her video.
I received this cute teddybear image from the Oh Baby! stamp set in the grab bag I won on StampTV (Lee’s Surprise Challenge). Stamped it on patterned paper, and shaded it with a Copic marker. After I cut out the image, I ran along the edge with a gray marker and it made such a difference! The sentiment was also stamped on patterned paper. Other than the white vellum, there is not a neutral color card stock in sight.

Day 4 in the Pattern Play Online Card Class was all about altering patterned paper. I slightly altered the Cheerful Treat DSP by adding Dazzling Details to the green dots on the paper. The sketch I used was SC422 on splitcoaststampers.com.
With such spring-like colors, I’ll be sure to enter this card in the “Voorjaar” (Spring) SU-per challenge. I rock ‘n’ rolled the Secret Garden flower stamp with light and dark pink ink and used the matching Framelits Die to cut out the images. The white sentiment was heat embossed on a 3/4″ inch strip of DSP. I used a square punch to create the notch at the end.

Kristina Werner of Online Card Classes had some great tips on using bold patterned paper on your cards. One of her techniques was applied on this card: the patterned paper was cut into 4″ x 3/4″ strips and adhered to the card base. I didn’t want to cover up this striking background, so I finished the card with a simple, yet elegant Spellbinders label. Next time I won’t be too lazy to pull out the Bow-Easy; my bow would have looked a whole lot better!

I’m learning so much about using patterned paper in this Online Card Class! Doesn’t this background look striking? I stamped the bold Baroque image onto light blue patterned paper with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it with clear powder. Then I rubbed Wild Wasabi ink all over the paper and wiped off the excess ink sitting on top of the embossed image with a paper towel. I dug up a very old On Board Accents frame and “painted” it with (even older) Very Vanilla Craft ink. It was embellished with Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware (remember this?) and adhered on top of the ribbon with dimensionals.
