When I saw Kristina’s latest color inspiration challenge (#19), I noticed that the card I had just designed for the Baltimore SCS shoebox swap this weekend came very close. I just needed to switch the Very Vanilla I had used to Whisper White, which I did on the card displayed here.
The front of the Basic Black card was trimmed just half an inch, and a strip of scalloped Whisper White paper was adhered to the back. On the inside, I glued a 1″ strip of Basic Gray card stock on the right hand side.
I stamped the silhouette with Basic Gray ink on Whisper White card stock and used the Wide Oval punch to punch it out. I layered a 2″ x 3″ piece of Bella Rose Designer Series paper on top of Basic Gray card stock and added two black brads at the top. Then I ruffled a piece of Basic Gray ribbon (like I did on my Glowing Butterfly card) and wrapped it around the bottom. I used a few dimensionals behind my oval and adhered everything to the card with more dimensionals. Hope my fellow shoebox swappers will enjoy making this one!
Thanks for stopping by!

I love this layout. I don’t have that set but I need to find something to use instead because I like this card a lot. Great job!

This is a lovely card Vera. The colors a red, black & white are a favorite for cardmaking and that bit of grey really adds a fresh look. Great crisp, clean lines.

So many things to like about this card – that gathered ribbon…the scalloped edge… very nice!

Okay it is me again. How are you making those beautiful ribbon strips? I took notes at convention and I just can’t get it to work, any tips?

Lisa, First I fray one end of the ribbon, so that I can see the individual threads better. Then I start pulling up on one of the threads near the center, and push the rest of the ribbon down. You just keep doing this (don’t pull too hard, or the thread might break) until you have gathered the entire ribbon into this ruffled look. Hope this helps!
